09SEP21 Update!!!!!!!! Although the global Covid pandemic continues travel has begun to open up for many countries. Despite quarantine and testing restrictions there are many countries that are now more accessible to visit, especially for many of UK followers of the blog. As a result of this the FCC suspension will be no more. However going forward to take into account the nearly 2 year travel restrictions most of us have faced when calculating your FCC simply take 2 years off your age to before working out your coefficient!
If you’re like me and enjoy lists and statistics you probably know the exact number of countries you have been to. A traditional list will give you 1 point for every country you have visited. The FCC however assigns points to each country based on their obscurity and difficult in getting to. The list is weighted to people based within Europe, as such the majority of European countries will have a 1 point score. More long haul but visa free destinations such as Australia receive 2 points whereas Central American countries such as Nicaragua are given 3. To get a 4 you may need to travel to off the beaten path Vanuatu and for the holy grail maximum 5 pointers you need to get the hermit nation of North Korea or war torn Syria.
Once you have your total points it this is divided by your age to give your overall points average. The reason for this is simple. The older you are the more chance you have had to travel. For me the overall coefficient gives a better representation to how well travelled someone is. See example below!
So, send me your country lists and your domestic country and I will generate your FCC!
